A Simpler Time at Warren School

Last Sunday, I had the wonderful opportunity to participate on an Education Panel at the Warren Historical Society's annual meeting. I was mesmerized as I listened to Warren School's educators of the past: Mr. Rosetti, Mr. Dobush, and Mr. Colangelo. They reminisced with members of the audience about a simpler time, when lessons took place in multiage classrooms in the white wooden structure that now houses the public library. Just like today, students learned in multiage classes (1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, and 5th/6th). No one can remember exactly when the new brick building that currently houses Warren students was started. Maybe 1968? What they do remember, though, is the commitment of the community to the Warren School. For example, when students needed new playground equipment, parents obliged by bringing in chain saws and hammers to build the requested structures. Parents also chiseled through bedrock to make room for a new cafeteria and kitchen.

The men all agreed that the community had been strong and supportive, and that parents and community members often asked, "What can we do for you?" Funny how some things never change. "What can we do for you?" That is the first question that I heard a Warren parent ask teachers during a meeting with Dr. Stone in the spring of 2015. That is the moment that I fell in love with Warren School. The teachers, staff, and I all feel so grateful to be part of such a warm and supportive school community. Thank you for all that you do for the Warren School, and thank you for sharing your amazing children with us.
