Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,

On Tuesday afternoon, students exited their classrooms to head to their first Enrichment Cluster meeting. Excitement permeated the hallway among children as well as adults. One girl looked up at me with a smile from ear to ear, clasped her hands together, and declared, "I can't wait to start!" At the end of the session, when it was time to get ready to go home, another student exclaimed, "It's over already? I want to stay!"

Enrichment Clusters are a research based component of a Schoolwide enrichment model developed by Dr. Joseph Renzulli and his colleagues at the University of Connecticut. Students and adults sharing a common interest come together to explore their interest over a period of weeks. Parents and community members with expertise in this area are often invited to work with the students as well. The Clusters focus on completing a product or delivering a service for a real world audience. All work evolves around three main questions:

  • What do people with an interest in this area do?

  • What knowledge, materials, and other resources are needed for authentic activities in this area?

  • In what ways can the product or service be used to affect the intended audience?

Students in Warren School are participating in one of the following clusters this fall:

Winter Gardening; Chemistry and Cooking and Food Shows, Oh My!; Life in the Ocean; Español; Ready, Set, Action!; Crocheting; and Traditional Egg Art. The fall session will run until December 15th.
