Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,

Thank you to all parents, students, and staff who attended our Open House on Tuesday evening. I shared our newly revised school vision and goals, which you can see in further detail here. I encourage you to attend my first Principal/Parent Coffee hour next Thursday, 9/24, at 6:30 PM to discuss our vision further and to provide feedback regarding our 2015-2016 school plan.

During the spring of 2015, students in grades 3 through 8 were administered the Smarter Balanced English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics assessments, which included both adaptive tests and performance tasks. Individual scores (for students currently in grades 4, 5, and 6) will be mailed home on Friday. The Connecticut State Department of Education has SBAC parent guides available that you may access here. In addition, please feel free to contact the school with any questions you may have.

In addition to the Smarter Balanced assessments, there are many other relevant ways that your student will be evaluated throughout the year. Examples include the STAR adaptive tests and classroom assessments. All evaluations are used to ensure that students are making appropriate academic progress toward higher standards. We are committed to working with teachers and parents to provide support for all students to succeed.

We are also committed to ensuring that all students are able to learn in a safe, bully-free environment. During morning meeting time, students are taught social skills that help them to get along with each other, and also how to recognize and report potential bullying behavior. For more information on the Region 6 bullying policy, please refer to pages 24-25 in the Student Parent Handbook.

Our new Makerspace is up and running and students are beginning to discover, design, explore, and apply their knowledge to a variety of independent and collaborative activities. What is a Makerspace, you ask? Check this link out for more information.

Inspired by Caine’s Arcade, students will participate in the 4th Annual Global Cardboard Challenge over the next several weeks. Follow our Elementary Media Specialist@MisterPrescott on Twitter for updates and photos as students create and play.

Please note the following:

  • The 14th Annual Warren School HARVEST LUNCHEON is Monday, September 21st.

  • Warren SCHOOL PHOTOS are Tuesday, September 22nd. Click on the link below this message for more information.

  • Principal/Parent Coffee Hour on Thursday, September 24th at 6:30 PM. You are invited to meet with me for coffee (decaf will be available!) and conversation. We will review and discuss the Warren School Vision and goals for 2015-2016, as well as any other topics that may be of interest.

Please contact me at any time with questions, comments or concerns.

Best wishes,

Angela Rossbach
